The 5 best beaches of Lanzarote
Lanzarote is one of the sectors in the Canary Islands with the most beautiful beaches in Spain, because you can choose from stunning volcanic sandy coves to extensive landscapes of turquoise waters connected with long stretches of golden sand where you will enjoy long baths, while you get a tanned skin and come back totally relaxed to continue with your routine activities.
But if you are one of those who prefer physical activity on the beach… we suggest you don’t miss the opportunity to visit the beaches of Lanzarote and sign up for Surf Canarias to learn and/or compete on that board you have stored away in a corner. But we also offer you incomparable plans that include yoga, diving, hiking, kitesurfing, mountain biking and much more.
Decades of experience training surfers of all nationalities and organising surf camps on the best beaches of Lanzarote and under the tutelage of the most experienced instructors we offer you in Surf Canarias, adapting to your level and abilities.
Here are some interesting options for you to make up your mind and take note now…
Famara Beach (Caleta de Famara)

Famara beach is an extensive strip of six kilometres with one of the most impressive seascapes and where the strength of the wind allows the best waves to form, where you can practice sports such as surfing and kitesurfing.
And the best thing is that in Surf Canarias we decided to settle in Famara and from there we organize camps, events, we even schedule training visits for surfing and kitesurfing on this beach.
No matter how crowded Famara beach is there is always space for socialising and water sports. You can also enjoy a barbecue in its natural stone areas or if you prefer you can enjoy the gastronomic offer in the local restaurants which include the best selection of fresh fish.
We recommend that you visit the place accompanied by people with experience on these beaches because the river that separates Lanzarote from the islets can hide a great current of water and surprise you.
Las Conchas Beach (La Graciosa)

A collection of small coves of fine white sand where you can get a full tan… It is a beach for adults because the strong waves of the Atlantic Ocean are usually very strong and dangerous… this is how we can describe what you will find on the small island of La Graciosa.
The waves of Playa Las Conchas are the ideal place for surfing but if you don’t have a lot of experience we recommend you always do it under the supervision of expert monitors as there is no lifeguard post.
Papagayo Beach

Located in the south of Lanzarote, you will find Papagayo Beach, awarded as one of the best beaches in Spain in 2019.
Playa de Papagayo is so different because of its wild landscape of transparent waters that acquire a very intense emerald colour contrasting with its fine golden sand, but there is not a great variety of services, so it is advisable that you go prepared, besides you have to walk around 3 kilometres to get to its beaches.
Playa Blanca

A village that still preserves the traces of the old fishing activity, it is now one of the most visited beaches in the south of Lanzarote for its pleasant atmosphere and tranquillity that it offers for the whole family, as well as all the services that you are always looking for to spend your holidays: restaurants, shopping centre, bars and the best: the marina with its quality services.
The sun can be very intense, so we recommend that you use protection and adequate hydration when visiting this beach.
It is as well known as Playa Grande, with a wide variety of services from parking, restaurants, toilets, changing rooms, sunbeds, sunshades and the opportunity to practice “nautical leisure”.
Puerto del Carmen beach (Lanzarote)

Also called Puerto del Carmen, it is located on the east coast of Lanzarote at a very short distance from the airport, we recommend this option if you are one of those who like the extreme comfort offered by air travel.
The port has a long history dating back to the time of Normandy and was an area of extensive commercial activity and since the opening of the Hotel Los Fariones more than 30 years ago it has been one of the main attractions for European tourists, providing basic and special services for the disabled.
Playa El Carmen is ideal for water sports such as surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, which is why you will see it as a tourist destination in the sports camps organised for the Lanzarote region.
How to get to the Best Beaches of Lanzarote?
To get to Lanzarote’s best beaches one of the best options is by car or bus, but from an island or islet you must take a boat from the nearest port.
Access to the beaches is by car or on foot for all the beaches we recommend in this post. For example, in Famara you can park along the beach and in the village that is very close, as well as in Playa Las Conchas, whose distance to the main town of the island is only 5.2 kilometres, a route that you can do on foot, by bicycle or simply by taxi.
Although you will have to drive to some beaches because in the case of Playa Blanca you have to drive 29 kilometres by road from Puerto del Carmen and it will take you about 25 minutes, but this is the most recommendable route.
